Words of Wisdom
“As a counselor, I believe healing begins when people feel seen, heard, and supported without judgment. My goal is to provide a safe and compassionate space where you can explore your experiences, discover your strengths, and move toward hope, healing, and lasting growth.”
About Candace Blackwood
Hello, and welcome. I’m Candace Blackwood, a Licensed Professional Counselor and the founder of Valley of Hope Counseling. I know that reaching out for support can feel overwhelming, and I want you to know that you do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone.
For nearly two decades, I have worked in the mental health and social services field helping individuals and families through difficult seasons of life. My passion is creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, valued, and empowered to heal.
I work with individuals ages 16 and older who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, stress, motherhood and parenting challenges, relationship concerns, career pressures, and the emotional weight that can come from trying to balance it all. As the wife of a military veteran, I also understand some of the unique challenges military families may experience.
My approach to counseling is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can show up as your authentic self without fear of judgment. Together, we will work to better understand your experiences, build on your strengths, and develop practical tools to help you move toward healing, growth, and emotional wellness.
At Valley of Hope Counseling, my hope is that every client feels safe enough to be honest, supported enough to grow, and encouraged enough to believe that change is possible.
I’m honored you’re here, and I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey.

Individual Counseling for Adults & Teens (16+)
At Valley of Hope Counseling, I provide compassionate virtual counseling services for individuals across Alabama ages 16 and older. Therapy is tailored to your unique experiences, needs, and goals, creating a safe and supportive space where healing and growth can begin.

Family Counseling
Families naturally experience seasons of stress, conflict, change, and emotional disconnection. Whether your family is navigating communication challenges, parenting difficulties, blended family adjustments, behavioral concerns, grief, or major life transitions, family counseling can provide a supportive space to work through these challenges together.
At Valley of Hope Counseling, family counseling focuses on strengthening communication, improving understanding, rebuilding connection, and creating healthier relationship patterns within the family system. My goal is to help each family member feel heard, respected, and supported while working toward greater harmony and emotional wellness.
Family sessions are approached with compassion, balance, and a nonjudgmental perspective, recognizing that every family has unique strengths as well as challenges. Together, we will identify areas of concern, explore patterns that may be contributing to conflict, and develop practical tools to help your family move forward in healthier ways.
Healing and growth are possible, even during difficult seasons.
